Question: With the stock market low, is now the time to invest?

( Back )

Answer #1:

I don't know in which stocks sorry but now is a good time to invest in the big companies while the venerable and relatively cheap

Answer #2:

Now is not a bad time to invest if you're investing for the long term (i.e., 10 or more years). If this is your college tuition money, don't put it in stocks. No one knows what will happen in the stock markets over the next year or two, but it may be pretty ugly. If you choose to invest, try starting with a low cost mutual fund, like an S&P 500 index fund. For $1,000, you can hardly buy any individual shares of stock, so a mutual fund would be your best option. (Note that many mutual funds have minimum investment requirements of $3,000 (less for an IRA) so you may have to do some more saving first).

Answer #3:

It depends on your time frame. If you are very long term this is the best time to invest. If you are going for the short term now is the time to play the downside.
